PRE & POST TAN GUIDELINES
These Guidelines are KEY to achieving a flawless outcome! If they are not followed correctly it may alter the outcome of your tan.
PRE TAN GUIDELINES
-
For best results, wax or shave at least 48 hours prior to your spray tan. This allows your pores adequate time to close, helping to prevent any spotting or dotting in the skin.
When shaving:
Avoid harsh chemicals or oil-based products
Use a razor without a moisturizing (petroleum) strip
Always rinse thoroughly and gently exfoliate afterward
Following these steps ensures a smooth, flawless tan application.
-
For optimal results, exfoliate your entire body 24 hours before your spray tan appointment. This removes dead skin cells and creates a smooth, even surface for the solution to absorb.
Best exfoliants include:
Sea salt
Brown sugar
Coffee scrubs
ALL Paired with exfoliation gloves or mitts for best results
Avoid products with oils or harsh chemicals, as they can leave a residue that interferes with tan development.
Skipping or improperly exfoliating can lead to the solution clinging to dead skin cells, causing uneven color, blotchiness, and premature fading.
-
Please allow at least 5 hours between your last shower and your spray tan appointment. This ensures your skin is fully dry, balanced, and ready for the solution to absorb evenly.
Avoid using body wash or soap in your pre-tan shower. Many cleansers leave behind residue that acts as a barrier, preventing the tan from properly adhering to the skin.
Showering too close to your session can result in a blotchy or uneven tan that won’t last as long.
-
To ensure the best possible results, please follow these important day-of instructions:
Do NOT apply before your session:
Makeup
Lotions or oils
Deodorant
Perfume
These products can create a barrier and negatively affect how your tan develops.
Wear:
Dark, loose-fitting clothing
No bra after your session (to avoid lines and smudging)
No jewelry
Appointments & Prep:
Please have any manicures, pedicures, or beauty treatments done before your spray tan
Bring an umbrella, even on sunny days – moisture from unexpected weather can ruin a fresh tan
Be sure to bring any required paperwork filled out and ready
POST TAN GUIDELINES
-
To protect your fresh glow, please follow these important steps after your spray tan:
Avoid:
Water exposure of any kind (including rain, hand washing, and sweating)
Physical activity that may cause perspiration
Touching your skin, especially with your palms
Perfumes, lotions, or any other liquid products before your first rinse
Touching or applying products too soon can cause discoloration, blotchiness, or stained hands.
-
After waiting 8–12 hours (standard solution) or 1–5 hours (rapid solution), it’s time for your first rinse:
How to Rinse:
Use warm water only — not hot
Rinse thoroughly using your hands only until the water runs clear
Use minimal soap only in necessary areas (underarms, private areas)
Important Reminders:
Do not scrub, exfoliate, or use loofahs — this can cause uneven fading
Pat your skin dry with a towel — never rub
You will see color wash off during your rinse — this is only the cosmetic bronzer, not your actual tan!
Your sunless tan will continue to develop after rinsing and fully reveal itself over the next 24 hours.
-
To keep your tan glowing beautifully for 5–10 days, proper aftercare is essential:
Moisturize 2x Daily
Apply a hydrating, chemical-free, oil-free moisturizer every morning and night
Hydration starts from within — drink plenty of water daily
Shaving Guidelines:
If needed, shave gently using a fresh razor without a petroleum strip
Avoid shaving creams or products with oils and harsh ingredients
Never press hard on the skin
Avoid Products That Can Strip Your Tan:
AHAs / BHAs
Salicylic acid
Retinoids
Anti-aging or acne treatments
These ingredients can cause uneven fading, discoloration, and premature exfoliation of your tan.
